Favorite things in this area for me are: Cafe el Popular, Casa de Azulejos Sanborns, Azul Historico, Cafe Tacuba, Restaurante El Cardenal, Dulceria Celaya.for eateries, though in Mexico City you can basically throw a tortilla in any direction and it will hit a place to eat. The billionaire, Carlos Slim, worked with the city to revitalize the downtown area. ![]() The streets are 5 de Mayo, 16 de Septiembre, Tacuba, Madero. And it is a terrific way to be introduced to Mexico City. In Centro Historico, there are four walking streets, either closed to traffic or traffic is reduced. And coffee at Memorias de un Barista and at BUNA and at Quentín. And pozole at the original Casa de Toño on Liverpool. And drinks at La Cerveceria by the Cibeles fountain in Roma. And lucha libre on Friday night at Arena Mexico. And pastries or desserts at the beautiful Sanborns Casa de Azulejos after visiting the Bellas Artes and touring the museum. And have churros at the original El Moro. ![]() And you need to go to the San Juan Gourmet Mercado and sample imported hams and wines from Spain. ![]() If you like Mexican folk art, the Museo de Artes Populares on Independencia is fabulous. Plan on visiting the Dolores Olmedo museum. ![]() Plan to go to Coyoacan and visit the market for walking around and for ceviche and for coffee at La Avellaneda and the Kahlo/Rivera museum. Here is some information I wrote for a friend recently: You would have to go out of your way to find the buildings damaged by the earthquake.
